I’ve just discovered this app in the last 20 minutes so it shows how easy and intuitive it is... so many ideas for our classrooms!
- World Book Day.. pupils or teachers could have their favourite book scenes behind them - - History- your class could appear in a suffragette scene or we as a teacher could be Henry VIII 😊 - English- Romeo and Juliet in the class or Macbeth - RE Background of synagogue or mosque or biblical scene - Business studies- business design tasks made easy (it is a business app) - Primary. Ancient Egyptian backgrounds or Vikings or replicate the pupils to do counting games. - PE - Students can appear at Anfield, the Olympics or Croke Park. Google Meets is one of the favoured ways to run live lessons with students. It runs very much like any of the other platforms but it is embedded into Google Classroom with a dedicated Meet link offered on the top banner. You can have Live face to face lessons (Or face to letters lessons! as they tend to be sometimes! ) You can present your screen or a PowerPoint very easily. You can change backgrounds, mute or turn off video link depending on your preferences. You can also record your lesson using Meets.
Hopefully I have covered many of these features below. There is a guide I have produced for this. It was at the very start of using it but hopefully it is comprehensive. i have been using it with my students for several weeks and we have found it very straight forward with no issues I have attached a downloadable guide on the link below. Amazing recommendation from the lovely Lesley Emerson - Always full of great ideas!!
This is a brilliant site where you can produce a whole range of brilliant resources for your classes!! Very easy to produce!! If like our school, your school have put in place alternative arrangements for a wet day break and lunch you will know that pupils can get bored when stuck in a classroom. This link to a google slides doc in our resource area could be your saving grace! The slides have multiple activities that could be displayed on the white board or shared to google classrooms/ microsoft teams (for kids to use on phone). This is an American version so you may want to make some of the activities more suitable for kids here in NI but there are plenty of art, reading, technology, mindfulness and physical education activities that you could use this straight away, without having to do any more work!
Open this document and make a copy for your drive. docs.google.com/presentation/d/1hbK0xv8eg0PVXb5L1WDB_RLyuu5WpnU3Mb-TM2JLh48/edit So for me today felt like the first day of the 'new normal'.....my first day teaching all 8 periods straight. It was great to be back in my classroom doing the job I trained for and which I love! The pupils are glad to be back and yes, things are different and lessons do not look the same as before 'lock down' but as usual the pupils just accept the changes and get on with the learning. I may not be able to drift round the room and lean over their shoulder to help but they accept that and together we will learn to manage things differently, (perhaps more strategic planning of seating is something I need to revisit!). However as always the adaptability and resilience of pupils amazes me. They just get on with it, already they have used brand new software to submit their homework digitally and all without a fuss or complaint!
On the way home I heard a song on the radio and I wanted to share it with you. Have a listen carefully to the lyrics and enjoy! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=33SuJE-ANiQ&list=RDAMVM33SuJE-ANiQ This is a great guide on how to use the NOTES app to scan written or printed work and uploading it easily to Google Classroom. This collates the work together preventing multiple copies and also prevents the poor photographs that tend to be sent.
