Kahoot

This is one of the most popular apps among teachers and pupils alike. It is used to create interactive quizzes which pupils can play in the class. The students with the quickest and correct answers win.

This is a great way of ending a class and recapping learning and checking their understanding of vocabulary

Morfo Booth

This is your chance to create a 3D talking head.

Choose a famous person from the country - Spain; France; Ireland. Students can then  use their language skills to voice sentences and record them. This can be used to help students express language skills in third person

Quizlet

This is a very handy revision tool and is used superbly by Languages.

Create a variety of revision games using this easy to use app.

You can add phrases or vocabulary and try to match them with the correct words or meanings. The ability to record voice on this is superb for languages.

ShowMe

This is a great little app. Very simple in its concept. It allows pupils to make the iPad an interactive open pad to simply write or draw on. Simple as that

It can be used to test knowledge by asking pupils questions in the class

How can you use this with Languages?
  • You can test knowledge quickly by asking them to write down the answer to display.
  • They can record themselves writing answers to questions.
  • They can write phrases or ask a question in the language which the other person has to answer

Strip Designer

This is an excellent comic strip app. You can use it to design storyboards. Pupils can create a scene from a play or recreate scenes from a book themselves.



How can you use it in Languages ?
  • Pupils could be inspired to use it to create a story which is told using the language.

  • It could be set in Paris, Madrid or Galway with the characters using the language to set the scene.

This is a fabulous, easy to use web design site. It has an education site which is free for teachers and can be used to create websites for the school. for subjects or for pupil projects. It is highly intuitive and very easy to produce a website in minutes!

How can you use it in Languages?
  • Use it to create online sections in which pupils can display their talent - their comics, homework, Morfo recordings, can all be effectively displayed online
  • Use it to create combine text, pictures, gallery and Youtube links on a page to enable students to research

Greann Clock

  • Greann Clock is a fun, easy, free way to learn a little Irish! It is an easy way to learn the numbers from 1 to 12 and how to tell time.
  • Open Greann Clock, and a live clock shows you the current hour and translation on the bottom. For example, at one o'clock (and any time before 2 o'clock), a "1" will appear, and "Tá sé a hAon a Chlog" ("It is one o'clock") will appear to the right.
  • Tap the "Abair é!" ("Say it!") button, and you will hear the Irish text spoken.
